WHAT THE EVIDENCE GAP COSTS — FOOD & BEVERAGE

The money is gone before you have the proof to argue.

Put in what you know: what you produce in a month, how wide the yield gap runs, what retailers deduct, how often a run gets held, and how many hours a day your people spend chasing all three. Everything updates as you type. Nothing you enter leaves your browser unless you choose to email yourself the result.

Saleable product at the price you sell it for.

The gap between what should come out of a run and what does.

Be conservative. Much of a yield gap is physics and always will be.

OTIF penalties, shortages, spec failures — whatever comes off the remittance.

Not all of them. Some deductions are simply earned.

Anything stopped because a code, label or spec did not match.

Labour, materials, lost line time, and the write-off if it comes to that.

Not all of them. Some only show up downstream.

QA, supervisors, planners, whoever builds the proof for a deduction dispute.

Not their whole job — just the chasing: rebuilding yield reports, digging out proof, tracing held runs.

Be conservative. Some of it will always need a person.

Wage plus benefits and payroll costs, not the wage alone.

RECOVERABLE A YEAR

$167,640

Yield recovered, deductions recovered or avoided, rework avoided and staff time taken back, added up from the numbers you entered. Recall exposure is deliberately not counted here — that is a regulatory obligation, not a saving.

A MONTH, ON YOUR OWN FIGURES

$13,970

The year above, divided by twelve — the figure a plant manager budgets against.

YIELD RECOVERED A YEAR

$34,560

Out of $172,800 of variance — only the share you said has a cause.

DEDUCTIONS RECOVERED OR AVOIDED

$15,360

Only the share you said you could dispute with proof in hand.

REWORK AVOIDED A YEAR

$28,800

Runs that are not held because the check moved to changeover.

STAFF TIME TAKEN BACK A YEAR

$88,920

Chasing hours a day, over 260 working days — only the share you said a system could take back.

WHAT THE YEAR IS MADE OF

  • $34,560

    Yield recovered · 21%

  • $15,360

Deductions recovered or avoided · 9%

  • $28,800

    Rework avoided · 17%

  • $88,920

YOUR NUMBERS, NOT OUR CLAIM. UNTIL YOU CHANGE AN INPUT THE FIGURES ARE AN EXAMPLE; AFTER THAT THEY ARE YOUR OWN INPUTS MULTIPLIED OUT. NOTHING HERE IS A GUARANTEE OF A RETURN. CHECK IT AGAINST YOUR OWN RECORDS BEFORE YOU BELIEVE IT.

WHERE THE STARTING NUMBERS COME FROM

They describe a small independent processor — roughly fourteen million dollars of annual production, a 1.2% yield variance of which only a fifth is treated as addressable, modest deductions, and four people who each lose three hours a day to chasing yield, deductions and rework, three-quarters of which a system is assumed to take back. The leak figures are set to under-claim. A supplier inside a major grocery chain’s compliance programme will recognise deduction figures several times the $3,200 a month this opens with.

This model does not price a recall, and it never will. Traceability and allergen control are regulated obligations under CFIA rules and your own preventive control plan. They belong to your QA function, not to a software vendor, and pricing them as a saving is how a plant ends up substituting a commercial tool for a regulatory control. The commercial case — deductions, yield, rework — stands on its own without it.

The yield line is deliberately cautious for the same reason. Much of any yield gap is physics and will never be recovered, so the model claims a fifth of it by default, not the whole variance. Claiming all of it would be the fastest way to make this dishonest, and the easiest thing for a plant manager to catch.

The food and beverage page sets out the five problems these numbers come from, what replaces each one, and exactly what evidence the page itself rests on.

WHERE WE WOULD START

Bring us one bad week.

Book a pilot call. Tell us where the week goes wrong, and we’ll tell you what an Operations Diagnostic would map and measure.

The first paid step has a clear scope and an end date, and the pilot after it is one workflow — not a platform, and not an open-ended retainer.
